Scribbling…..and boutique bird houses?

IMG_0429 IMG_0431 IMG_0432 IMG_0434

My dad had a mass of bird and bat boxes made so I nabbed a few and created some “art” on them. This is my fave though.

Ta-da…these are now available to buy in the Welsh Rare-bits Co. Shop. Click on the screen cap above to go to the shop.

My next project involves a badger skull that my sister brought up from the woods. I thought she was bringing me something nice, she walked in carrying a Marks&Spencers bag so obviously I thought it was food. You can imagine my suprese!!

Kitchen Utensils – Work In Progress

DSCN2405 DSCN2403 DSCN2402 DSCN2399I’m hoping to continue this project and make a whole loads of paper kitchen utensils. These are just the few that I managed to do today. Frying pans are hard work, as are ladles. Those are little bastards to make! The main theme of this subject that I have been covering is how we define ‘home’. I have broken it down though and obviously at the moment I’m tackling the kitchens. I’ve realised that kitchens are funny places as they seem to have become the social room these days. It’s sometimes the first room a person will see and i’m quite intrigued with how people keep their kitchens. Is it a designer kitchen? do you have all your cooking stuff on display? is it a basic kitchen? Bet you’re fed up with saying the word kitchen now so i’ll wrap up. Its just something that i’ve been looking into as a starter for some new work. I’m quite pleased with everything so far but can’t wait to add more. x

All The Things I Don’t Own

DSCN2388 DSCN2389 DSCN2390 DSCN2391 DSCN2397

It was a sad day when I realised I don’t own that thingamajig that you use to hammer meat…

If I’m ever fortunate enough to move out of my parents house, there seems to be a lot of crap i’ll need to buy. This piece first came about with me doing little objects from the kitchen but then I started to feel a little bitter so I started cutting objects that I realised I don’t own. When I do move out, I’ll have two beautiful lights and a lot of cds and dvds…and that’s about it. If my mother is to believed, a spatula is not only a handy tool for cooking, but also an amazing design accessory for the home.

Sketchbook work

WP_000514 WP_000511

I’m in the middle of watching Braveheart but I thought I’d show you what I’ve doing with my day. These aren’t for anything in particular as yet. I’m just concentrating on working on a sketchbook to get plenty of ideas down so I can then start afresh on something more substantial. Playing around with pattern and texture, i’ve been looking a fair bit at the work of William Morris and Grayson Perry. Think I’m going to play around with some paper too.

I’m also going to be doing the back, sack and crack equivalent of tidying up my website…spruce it up a bit.

DO I HAVE TO?…REALLY?

WP_000485

Bollocks! That is literally the only way I can think to describe things. God, I thought I was going to be so productive in 2014. I am well aware that we’re only a month into the year but if you knew what I was like…oh this isn’t good!

I just can’t seem to find the motivation to do anything at all. I start a piece of work and then about half way through I think what the fuck is the point of this? and end up scrapping it.

I’ve written before about my struggle with anxiety and depression and while I have made a lot of progress I think I’ve still managed to let it get a hold of me too much now. It feels like a vicious circle at times. I don’t go out to work as that is still a bit of a challenge for me but I’m very lucky to have my parents supporting me while I get myself together. I’m really not very good with going out in public but I think I’m really going to have to push myself this year as I need that outlet where I can bounce ideas off other artists. Or even just getting inspired and motivated. I don’t think I’ll achieve anything by staying at home!

WP_000497 WP_000496 WP_000493

WP_000501 Today was the first time in a while that I felt like doing any drawing. These are some of William Morris’ roses. I actually found it very relaxing doing this which is something I haven’t felt in a while when producing art. There’s always that niggle at the back of my head that the work must in some way produce money and I’m starting to find that overwhelming now. I don’t know how others manage it, that balance of creating something they are happy with but also that people would want to buy.

Onward and up though eh?!

Hope all is well with everyone.

Take care,

Rach x

Doodles and What’s Coming Up

colouringbook

Haven’t been about on here for a while, been busy with the craft fairs and trying to motivate myself to do some new and interesting work – which is actually really quite difficult!

I entered this doodle into a colouring book competition…it did not make the final cut!All the PG things I drew never turned out right, so then I went a bit risqué. I love this doodle even if it didnt get chosen, I knew it wouldn’t but I was still glad I entered it.

In other news I have some wrapping paper being printed and it should be here within the week. I’m really looking forward to showing it to you all.

Hope you’re all well.

New Facebook Page

Screen Shot 2013-11-05 at 21.08.43

Hope you’re all having a fantastic bonfire night, I had a lovely time sitting in a car park to view someone else’s fireworks…i’m far too cheap to pay to actually go in somewhere.

I’ve set up a new Facebook page for myself, thought it was probably about time I got somewhat professional.  Hope you will all pop over there for a snoop and to like the page.

Also, you have until the 11th November to buy one of my limited edition cushions that I have entered into the Ohh Deer pillow fight competition.  Here are my designs that I have entered: French Cat, Fancy and Bum

Cheers lovelies! x

Paper Cut Crown

crownredo1 crownredo2 crown3redo

Its my niece’s birthday in a couple of days so I thought I would make her a special crown for her party…it’ll probably be in shreds by the end of the night if the younger niece gets her hands on it! I’ve really enjoyed doing this, i go through various periods where I hate doing cut outs and nothing turns out how i’d like but I was fairly relaxed when I sat down to do this and didn’t heap a mound of pressure on myself for it.

I’ve been listening to the Reith Lectures recently which the artist Grayson Perry has been giving.  I always get rather apprehensive about listening to artists giving lectures about art as you always come out of it feeling rather inferior. Grayson Perry has a very down to earth way about him and doesn’t use a load of arty vocabulary where you spend more time concentrating on translating rather than just appreciating what is being said.  I highly recommend you have a listen if you think its something you might be interested in – Reith Lectures with Grayson Perry

Also, the Ohh Deer Pillow Fight competition is still open. You have little under a week to get your limited edition cushions. You can find my designs here 1,2,3

Right then, done! x
