Day 170 of Arsing About!

Arsing about:

1) messing about, being a fool
2) doing nothing in particular for a long time
“What have you been doing all day?”
“Arsing about.”

I like to think I fall into the latter category however I haven’t been completely rubbish, my sister and I have been discussing my career prospects. No, no don’t worry…its good news. We think that I am amply qualified to be a professional Marshmallow Ploper. What’s that you ask? Well i would be the one plopping  the marshmallows in your hot chocolate…YEP!

Anyway, when I haven’t been creating highly specialised jobs to apply for I’ve been trying to make myself feel better with creating little bits and bobs.

First I made a paper whisk:

Nuff said really.

I’ve also discovered air drying clay which I’m not quite as excited about anymore as its actually really annoying to work with. I did get some nice jewellery out of it though, think they’d be better out of clay and the properly fired.

Ta-da…these are now available to buy in the Welsh Rare-bits Co. Shop. Click on the screen cap above to go to the shop.

My next project involves a badger skull that my sister brought up from the woods. I thought she was bringing me something nice, she walked in carrying a Marks&Spencers bag so obviously I thought it was food. You can imagine my suprese!!

Artist Book

DSCN1852DSCN1855DSCN1850DSCN1856DSCN1848 DSCN1851

The sunshine has come to an end so this is what i have been working on through the rain. Nice to be able to finally get back into the swing of things again. I’ve been attempting to create this artist book for a while. It’s my entry into the Sheffield International Artist Book Prize. Hopefully I’ll have more luck with this competition that I did with the last one I entered, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. As I mentioned, I’ve been working on this for a while but i was completely stumped for ages as to what direction to go in for it. Also, everytime I came up with an idea and went to work on it, my hands had other thoughts and nothing turned out the way I wanted it to. But I’m exceptionally pleased with this piece. The text inside reads: Love can sometimes be magic.

But Magic can sometimes just

be an illusion.

I’ve done prints of the text before but I loved it so much that i decided to use it for the book too. Let me know your thoughts on it, I’d love to know what you think if you could spare the time.

Take care,

Rach x

Fathers day card

Made my own card this year. I wonder if im the only adult who spends their weekend making fathers day cards…at least I have something in common with my 5 yr old niece! Oh! and if your wondering why it is he has a gun and looks like a madman, its because he’s a farmer and likes to hunt a lot.

Wedding Stationary

DSCN1459 DSCN1458 DSCN1457 DSCN1453

My friend is getting married in June this year and I asked whether, as my wedding gift to her, I could design and make her  wedding stationary. Looking back, I don’t know what came over me when I decided to offer my services! I’m not at all used to working to other people’s specifications, I much prefer doing my own thing as an artist. Having said that, I’m so pleased with how these turned out, Ive been able to add my own stamp to them through my writing style and also the experience of it has been invaluable.

Creative wrapping

I may have gone slightly nuts with the creative wrapping of my nieces birthday present. I’m thinking way too much effort for a two year old who’s going to tear it to pieces but something I’ve ultimately really enjoyed doing. And I think I may continue with this for wrapping my Christmas presents, if nothing else people will realise who its from!
