Day 170 of Arsing About!

Arsing about:

1) messing about, being a fool
2) doing nothing in particular for a long time
“What have you been doing all day?”
“Arsing about.”

I like to think I fall into the latter category however I haven’t been completely rubbish, my sister and I have been discussing my career prospects. No, no don’t worry…its good news. We think that I am amply qualified to be a professional Marshmallow Ploper. What’s that you ask? Well i would be the one plopping  the marshmallows in your hot chocolate…YEP!

Anyway, when I haven’t been creating highly specialised jobs to apply for I’ve been trying to make myself feel better with creating little bits and bobs.

First I made a paper whisk:

Nuff said really.

I’ve also discovered air drying clay which I’m not quite as excited about anymore as its actually really annoying to work with. I did get some nice jewellery out of it though, think they’d be better out of clay and the properly fired.

Bird Skull Collection

magpie2magpie1magpie1

I’ve been having fun creating these little bell jar installations to add to my skull collection. They only measure about 10cm including the base. I’m still fascinated by the sideshow so have continued with that theme. Let me know what you think. They’re also available in my shop if you  are interested. Take care and enjoy the sunny weather! x

DSCN1702

It wasn’t until I was flicking through this months Vogue that I noticed the resemblance…if he was a cross dresser that is. Hoping to do a few of these, I have a cunning plan in mind! Mwahahahahaha!

Looking for something to do, I bought these fabulous blocks off of etsy. I was going to do a standard village but then I thought i’d have a go at doing some high fashion Paris stores. I’m happy with how they’ve turned out but not entirely. I worry that maybe they’re a little too twee. But anyway, its up to you what you make of them. They are available on my Etsy shop.

Shoe art

DSCN1176 DSCN1177 DSCN1179

I’m nothing if not ambitious and my great goal in life has been to be draw on a pair of shoes!! In all seriousness though, i do love looking up shoe art and think its brilliant some of the truly unique designs people have done. I was very graciously given these by my partner to potter about with. I’m actually really pleased with them and like the fact that they look drawn and not merely transfer design.

Anthropomorphic Creatures

Hello!! Thought i’d get back on here and share some weird little characters with you. These were actually done in my first and second year of uni but I didn’t want to keep them cooped up in my portfolio, so here they are. My image of the Raven is based on the poem by Edgar Allen Poe. I wanted him to be this really quite narcissistic character, and I looked toward the fashion of Tom Ford for the outfit I put him in. I loved the ad campaign that Ford did with Nicholas Hoult wearing the blue velvet tuxedo jacket.

Letters

Here are some doodle style lettering I’ve been playing around with at home. These are only a few of them, the word I designed these for was Vogue. Again, its something that I would absolutely love to do, be commisioned to do a set design for the magazine. As I think I’ve already mentioned, i’m a huge fan of the photographer Tim Walker and set designer Shona Heath and when they pair up.
