This is the first in a series of bell jar installations I’m planning to do. Obviously they’re quite similar to ‘The Borrowers’ work that I did previously. The work is super small, the jar is only about 10cm in height.  I love doing work like this, I’m really glad that I’ve got back into it. Im just enjoying experimenting and seeing what I come up with. Enjoy and take care. x

Shoe art

DSCN1176 DSCN1177 DSCN1179

I’m nothing if not ambitious and my great goal in life has been to be draw on a pair of shoes!! In all seriousness though, i do love looking up shoe art and think its brilliant some of the truly unique designs people have done. I was very graciously given these by my partner to potter about with. I’m actually really pleased with them and like the fact that they look drawn and not merely transfer design.

Here are some badges that I did especially for my sister. She wanted some badges to put on her satchel for work with her husbands, her own and my niece’s initials on. If anyone is interested in me doing personalised badges of any sort drop me an email.

Thought you all might like to have a little look at what my sketchbooks look like. This was for an advertising module , (not something Im particularly good at) where I chose Liberty to try and design a package for. The theme had to be based around Natural History and not wanting it to be too stilted I chose to approach it with quirky cartoon like illustrations with pops of colour. Everything you see is all my own work, the cut-outs are mine overlaying a selection of past advertising campaigns for Liberty and patterns that were available in store. Were always required to show our research and what my lecturers never quite understood was that my development of an idea happened all throughout my books alongside whatever research I do. I would always be marked down because they thought I hadn’t developed an idea clearly. Im not very good at drawing an idea and then doing an arrow to show how it went to the next stage and the next. Its just not my style. My favourite out of the book is the badger and fox paintings, not to everyones taste but I loved the whimsical but evil  look about them.

Mono Print collage and paper cutting

DSCN1135 DSCN1132

I decided to have a look back at my print work that I did a few years ago. Im feeling somewhat  lost as to where I want to head with my work right now. I’ve been doing some stuff like cards, you know bread and butter work but I have to start thinking long term if I want to succeed as an artist. i found this book that I had done in my first year of university. Its a cut out book that documents my favourite times of holidaying in Perthshire in Scotland. I did a lot of mono prints and simple line drawings and then stuck them down to cut from them. I don’t think I appreciated this much at the time but I really love the delicacy of this piece. I loved not being to precious about things and I thinks thats what Id like to get back to if possible. DSCN1136 DSCN1137
